Garden PanoramaSpringville Lavender Gardens is located at 34515 Highway 190 about one mile before the quaint town of Springville. For our hours of operation, a map and other information about visiting the gardens please see Visiting, Directions, News & Events. If you continue past the town you will eventually reach some of the southernmost stands of the sequoia redwoods and the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The gardens are adjacent the Tule River and are surrounded by foothill mountains of the Sierra. Even though you can’t see the river from our property, you can hear the water rushing, especially in winter and spring. There is excellent bird watching in the gardens. Some of the birds seen in the gardens are blue birds, hummingbirds, swallows, towhee, phoebe, woodpeckers, mourning doves, California quail, geese, ducks, great blue heron, snowy egret, hawks, great horned owl, and vulture. Even a pair of golden eagle were spotted riding the thermals in April 2004.

Tule RiverThe gardens are owned and operated by Linda and Gary Starr. For many years Linda’s dream has been to have a garden to share with others and so began Springville Lavender Gardens in 2004. Since that time Linda and her husband, Gary, have been converting cow pasture into various gardens. More than ten different varieties of lavender and 60 other herbs can be seen growing in the gardens, as well as beds of roses, perennials, shrubs and annuals used for cut flowers and flower arranging, citrus and landscape trees, and native and xeriscape demonstration sections. Linda and Gary enjoy sharing their gardens with visitors and talking about the benefits and uses of lavender, herbs and the other plants they have growing. In their studio, Mountain View Cottage, fresh and dried flowers, floral arrangements, and botanical and herbal gifts can be found. Arrangements can also be made for special tours and classes given at different times during the year, where visitors can learn how to grow, dry, distill, cook and utilize lavender and other herbs.

Due to our mild climate our lavender often blooms earlier than lavender growing at other locations in California. Generally the gardens are open from March through December but occasionally we are closed for special events, so we recommend calling ahead before visiting.  You may call us at 559-539-2048 for our open hours which are posted on the message machine for each week.  You may also check our Visiting, Directions, News & Events section for special event dates and times.  Arrangements can be made in advance for landscape design consultation, guided tours for individuals or groups, or to visit the gardens on days and times not listed.
